Description

Tryon Fine Arts Center begins the Great Courses series on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. The popular series will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, from January through May. Each session will last approximately 90 minutes.

Great Courses features a series of DVDs augmented with discussions and local experts. On the second Tuesdays, the program will focus on music with a discussion of Solo Piano Works led by Beth Child. On the fourth Tuesdays, the Great Courses explore art with discussions of the World’s Greatest Paintings led by Tara Brannon.

Dr. Elizabeth Child holds a doctorate in performance from the Julliard School, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor’s degree from Converse College. Well-known for her combination of dramatic intensity and intimate communication, Beth currently operates a piano studio in Tryon.

Tara Brannon holds a BA in Art History from Wellesley College, and a M.Ed. and BFA in Interior Design. She has worked for a variety of arts and non-profit organizations and as an interior designer for large and small firms. Tara currently owns and operates her own firm.

Coffee, hot teas, and pastries will be provided at the Great Courses. There is no cost for the series thanks to an anonymous sponsor. Seating is limited to 35 people, so attendees are asked to reserve their place in the series in advance.
